Say hello to 'Bitter Red'

Botivo X Good & Proper Tea

We've collaborated with our friends at Good & Proper Tea to create Bitter Red, a complex and tasty non-alcoholic cocktail.

At Botivo, we know how important versatility is. For the last 10 years, Botivo's sister company Rum Runner, has been creating innovative cocktails for events across the UK and Europe. We know that bartenders like products that are versatile so that they may use them in all manner of ways. Nowadays, even the customer at home wants to get creative and shake up a storm in the kitchen.

In light of this, we have been working hard behind the scenes to bring our customers and stockists a different number of Botivo recipes. So, our first recipe includes one of our favourite ingredients… tea.

Rupert, our Sales & Operations Manager, began his career in sales at Good & Proper Tea, who have the most incredible range of award winning premium loose leaf teas. So a collaboration with them was a must. Both companies have a focus on sourcing ingredients of the best quality.

We tested recipes using tea from each tea group and what we found was that they all worked, especially teas like thier bestselling Earl Grey and their Iron Buddha (Oolong). However, their Rooibos was a clear winner. This herbal tea lends its delicious vanilla sweetness to Botivo’s herbal, bitter and citrus flavour profile creating a drink with a creamy texture and an amazing depth.

We are looking forward to coming up with even more recipes that we can share with you, but for now, why not roll your sleeves up and give this one a go!

What you need:

25 ml Botivo

100 ml Good & Proper Rooibos Tea

10ml Lemon

3 Slices of Cucumber

Ice to shake and serve

Prepare your tea by brewing 3g (1 tea bag) of Good & Proper Rooibos in 100 ml of water. Make it nice and strong so let it steep for 10 minutes. We recommend making enough tea for a few drinks. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.

Add all the ingredients to a shaker, including a few ice cubes and give it a hard 7-10 second shake.

Serve long in a highball glass with fresh ice and strain out the contents of the shaker. You know you’ve shaken well when you see a nice foamy top.

Garnish with a cucumber ribbon and enjoy your ‘Bitter Red.’
